One of the perks of working in a big company are the various training programs you are supposed to attend – like meetings, they are usually time pass, a break from the daily routine. If they are held outstation, they are paid holidays with everything taken care of, with additional advantage that you do not have to worry about reaching office in time.
I had stayed in Lonavala for a few days many years ago for one such training program during the monsoon. The company owned facility was well maintained, but Lonavala itself was like a ghost town. I would some times go for a walk in the morning, you could hardly see any human being, only lots of empty bungalows.

In addition to the main New Delhi station, there are 2 other smaller stations in New Delhi, Hazrat Nizammudin and Sarai Rohilla. The stations are very poorly planned, one of them does not have parking space for vehicles, at the station there is no electricity for hours at a stretch.
Of all the places I have travelled in India on work, I have had the worst experience in Delhi. The city may be well designed with wide roads, but travelling from one place to another is difficult unless you have hired a vehicle. The route to the airport passes through some posh areas, which are so deserted in the evening, that it is scary.
From the airport you can reach any place within Delhi using a prepaid taxi, but returning to the airport from your place of work is difficult, especially in Noida. There is no vehicle in sight even if you search for half an hour, but the customers for that project were kind enough to find a taxi for me (and note down the taxi license plate ) so that I did not miss the last flight back to Mumbai.

The first time I visited Kolkata, all official work was completed in one day, and the flight back to Mumbai was scheduled for late in the evening. So during lunchtime I decided to check out the Underground Metro railway .
At that time, it was the only underground railway system in India. I bought a ticket between consecutive stations. It was similar to other trains, only faster and less noisy.

Kolkata has been in the news recently, I visited it on work a few times when I had a 9-5 job. Most of the company offices and the guesthouse were in the center of city, so I did not see much of the city. The last time I visited , I stayed in the company guesthouse at Little Wood Street, which was quite close to Park Street. Unlike Mumbai, where there are always people on the roads even at 11 pm, in Kolkata after 6 pm, you will hardly see anyone , so exploring the city becomes a little risky.
In the morning I would walk to our company office which was close by and then go to our customer’s office at Bentick Street (called Ganesh Chandra Avenue), since they would start work only after 11.30 am. The building was very old, must have been built around 1900. Work would end at about 7 pm , then I would take a cab back. If the cab driver realised you were not from Kolkatta and did not understand Bengali, they would charge extra, so it was best to keep your mouth shut.
